The Haps

Let me start this here post off by saying, "It's hot, and I don't like it."  Yuck and gross all at the same time.  I took Riley to Walmart last night to get a few things and she gets out of the car and says, "Wow Mommy, it's a really hot day today.  Good thing I brought my sunglasses."  I hear ya Riley, I hear ya.  I was thinking it's about that time to start decorating for Halloween and fall but the weather is a total bummer.

Speaking of Halloween, I want to talk costumes.  Riley has been wanting to be a dinosaur for months now.  Months and months, she wants to be a, "Big, huge, scary dinosaur, RARRRRRR!!!"  I showed her a costume of a dinosaur online...

...and she quickly decided (in honestly 2 seconds) that the pretty pink princess was more her thing.  Really?  She's a princess everyday.  She wakes up, goes to her dress up closet and picks a dress to wear.  Then I get woken up, she always comes to my side, with a few pokes and,"look Mommy, I'm a pretty pretty Princess."  I had my heart set on a dinosaur costume for Riles.  Maybe next year.  We'll see what Madi picks too, Riley wants her to be a puppy...

we'll see about that.

Next up...Oregon.  We purchased our plane tickets for the weekend of October 7-10 to go and see the new baby!!  Tim's brother Jared and his wife Melanie welcomed their second daughter a few months ago and I can't wait to meet her.  She is so adorable and I'm hoping that I don't get baby fever.  You know, Madi is the same age Riley was when Madi was 1 month old.  Craziness.  I miss my babies.  But that's an entirely different post.

Tim was home all weekend it was really nice.  Except for the fact that Riley brought home yet another bug from preschool and we are all sick with a cold.  I hate being sick.  Flu shots should be in our near future.  Can't wait.  We did happen to go to the beach on Saturday though, for a bit.  It was so hot this weekend and I really wanted the girls to be outside but not in this 100 degree heat so we packed up the girls and headed down to Newport.

Riley thinks she is a fan of the beach until we get there.  The sand is gross and the water is scary.  This trip however we made big strides.  We ventured off the towel and into the sand, and down to the water, and then into the water.  I was shocked.  We probably would have stayed longer if a big wave didn't come and knock Riley straight onto her face.

I brought my camera, which I'm always afraid to do because of the sand.  I hate having to hold my camera the whole time.  Tim hates it too.  He really likes it when I don't bring my camera and I do too.  You can just enjoy the moment and make memories.  Here are a few pictures of our day.

Riley hates the sand and Madi, well...

This is what Riley did for the first 20 minutes before she ventured off the towel.  Sand "castles".

I overheard someone saying that they could see the fish in the waves, I caught some.  So cool, unless you are in that water swimming with them where they can suck on your toes.  My Mom knows where I am coming from.

The hubs.  So awesome.  So mine.  So happy.

Looking forward too....my Mom's Dancing with the Stars party.  Loving this season by the way, and yes, I'm obsessed with The Situation.  And Jennifer Grey, made me cry.  I still can't watch that movie, my favorite movie of all time Dirty Dancing since the passing of Patrick.  I loved him and I always heard what a really good person he was.  Made me love him more.

One more thing I'm looking forward too...my friend Becky from high school will soon be giving me and Mom some photography lessons on Tuesdays.  Payment you ask?  Yes, cake and champagne, her and Sam came for a tasting last week and we have an agreement.  I'm so excited.  I really can't wait.  She went to school for photography, and is fabulous!  I'm sure she will get a little bonus at the end of our lessons!  Are you reading this Becky?  I'm holding you to your offer, you don't want to let me down now, hahaha!!!

Well, I hope you all have a fabulous week!  I'm hoping that I only have 2 two tier cakes to complete by Friday, instead of one topsy turvy and a 3 tier.  I've learned to put a very nice price tag on things that take forever to finish.  I just always am surprised when people still want it.  I'm totally looking forward to my break in December.  NO orders.  I've told everyone that I'm booked and I can't wait to be normal for a bit.  I think I deserve the break and I think my hubby deserves to have a normal wife for a while.

Happy Monday all!  I'm off to watch Dancing!!!

A Lesson

Ever have that one chore or that one thing that needs to get done?  You know like you have a deadline?  And of course you have kids or have had kids so you know how they like to make tasks a bit more difficult to accomplish.

I know that every Friday, I have deadlines.  I also know that I have children.  I've been fortunate enough to find a great day care provider for Madi and the past two weeks, I was kidless from 8:45-12:00 on Fridays.  In this time, I'm able to get a lot accomplished.

This week, Ms. Megan was unable to watch Madi.

I had to do it.

Can you believe it?

I had to watch my own child.

I think I was spoiled those last two weeks and forgot what it was like to cake it with kids.  I forgot how I entertained and did fondant work at the same time.  I lost my touch.

Now, to the lesson.

We went to Target around 10:00 am to find some baby shoes.  Yes, I bought Madi an icee and popcorn.  What?  You say it's too early for a snack like that?  I disagree.

We stopped at Michaels and then home.

Home.

I decided I'd set Madi up with her popcorn and a movie.  That should give me at least 20 minutes before I have to come up with another stimulating activity.

Did I tell you that I set her up on the couch?

Sure did.  Did I tell you I gave her the entire bag of popcorn?

Do you know what happens next?

Yep, you were right.

She spilled it....everywhere.

And would have napped in it if I let her.

A better idea?  That would not have taken me 15 minutes to clean up (and take pictures).

So the lesson in this?  The moral of the story?

Tell Ms. Megan that she's not allowed to take Fridays off.

Ever.

=)

Good times with Cousins

What a great weekend we had!  Tim's cousin Brian and his wife Nicola and daughter Paige came to visit us and Disneyland!!  They got in Thursday night, I desperately tried to get my cakes and cookies done before they got here but wanted to make sure the house was in order first.  You all know how long it takes to do that when kids mess it up right behind you!!  Well I didn't get done but they stayed up and we visited the night away while I continued on into the wee hours of the night.  A few of the cakes...

Friday the cousins headed to Disney while Tim worked and I finished my cakes.  My pick ups were for 5:30 on Friday so after those were off, we all headed back down to have dinner at El Torrito off of Ball where we met Tim and after a very long dinner (thanks to our waiter) we got to Disneyland pretty late!  The girls did okay, but if you know my kids, after 8:00 pm, they are soooo ready for bed, and if you know me, you know that I'm ready for them to be in bed by 6:30 pm.  They did pretty good though, no complaints.  My brother's sound proof box idea would have come in handy though...

I didn't take many pictures that night, just a few that looked like this...

Saturday Tim had to work for a bit, shock, so we went out to breakfast with the kids.  Good times down at the old Chuck Wagon.  Seriously, best breakfast ever, and it's not bad when you throw a little bloody mary in on the action!  Nicola and Brian are so awesome, and their daughter Paige is one of the prettiest little girls, just gorgeous.  I really enjoyed their company this past weekend.  They are my type of people.  Just ready to go with the flow and have a good time no matter what.  After a great breakfast we decided to drive down to the car show that Tim had to be at for work to kidnap him.  We didn't do much kidnapping though, it was fun to just walk around and see all the cool stuff.

We took some beauty queens with us.

Can you tell that these two were inseparable?

Cotton candy anyone?

We ran into something that Daddy painted...

So guess what?  After days of taking pictures, I didn't realize that one of my girls licked my lens and there was this disgusting film on it that turned up in all my pictures.  Always a good time!!  You'll be able to spot it I'm sure!

And Sunday?  Disney again, this time we got to see a few princesses.  Some princesses we brought with us though.

We tried to get the 3 of them to pose together but Riley was throwing a bit of an emotional fit so Madi tried to be as Princess like as Paige.
Not bad Madi!

We also got 2 faces painted.

Thanks again guys for coming out to visit!  We can't wait to come out and see you!

1, 2, and 3

#1. Riley had her first day of a new year of preschool last Wednesday.  She's been going through the summer but it was her official first day of school.  She's now going 3 days a week and so far so good!  She loves it and I have to share a small bit of news that I got from Riley's teachers last Friday.  I came to pick up Riley and her teacher, Ms. Jennifer told me that Riley was a really big help that day.  She told me that there was a little girl who had never been to preschool before and she was having a very tearfilled day.  Nothing made this little girl happy.  Well they decided to go out to the playground and this girl just wouldn't stop crying.  So my Riley went up to this little girl and took her by the hand and said, "It's okay, I know, I know.  Want to come play with me?"  Sure enough Riley and this little girl (not going to say her name) played the entire time on the playground together and not one tear escaped that little girl's eyes!  Can I just tell you, proud Mama moment?  This world that we live in is a very ugly place sometimes.  I fear for my girls' future.  I just hope I can bring them up to be good people, with a firm belief in the Lord and all that He does so that if they are faced with evil, they can have strength through Him to overcome it.  To know that my daughter is very comforting and friendly at such a young age just melts my heart.  Her Daddy has a heart of gold and she is not far behind.

Can I tell you, she was 5 minutes late because I couldn't not get a first day of school picture.  They are some of my favorites of me and my sibs growing up.  We thought we were so cool!  Anyway, I wasn't the only late one, phew!

and one with lil' sis, who wants to be in preschool soooo bad!

Speaking of lil' sis, she had her first day of daycare on Friday.  She did excellent.  My friend lives right down the street from me.  Walking distance, like 400 feet and she runs a daycare out of her home.  So convenient for me and I can totally trust her.  She's so awesome with these kids that Madi didn't want to leave when I came to pick her up.  Riley wanted to stay too.  I think Madi will be seeing Ms. Megan every Friday that I have orders due.  It made it so nice for me to work alone.  It's the best thing that ever happened, you know besides the Mr. and the kids.

#2.  Our electricity was out all day Sunday.  It was unfortunate but we got a lot of things done.  First things first though, we had ghost chases...

It was nice to have this guy home because instead of me having to do the crazy stuff, he does.  Don't know what I mean?

I mean this...

After that, we talked to Nana and tried on all the different shoes in the closet.

Since the electricity was out, we decided to put the kids to bed and clean out the garage.  Fun times I know.  But it feels good.  It's needed it since we moved in and we have just been too busy to take care of it.  I threw out so much stuff and have two of the biggest boxes you've ever seen ready for Goodwill.  If anyone is in need of a baby swing or a pretty good scanner/printer/copier, it's yours.  They are just taking up space and will be off to Goodwill tomorrow.

#3.  I can't get enough of this....

No not the steak, the other thing...

It's like a glorified grilled cheese.  I know you've all tossed this together before.  If you do not have fresh garden tomatoes straight from your backyard, I know of the next best thing.  These yellow tomatoes from Sam's.  Not a big fan of Sam's, to me it's a glorified Walmart and nothing compares to Costco but it's close and I can get a few necessities if I need them.  These yellow tomatoes are a necessity.

Anyway, all you do is toast your sour dough (I use sour dough, I'm sure it would be great on anything)

Throw your slices of cheddar on top (I use Tillamook cheddar and I'm sure a different cheese such as pepperjack would be really good too)

Place them in to broil, for like, a minute.

Then put your tomatoes on top, put as much ground pepper on them as you want, some kosher, and some lemon pepper, and it's done.  And so good.  It's like a meal.  Oh yeah, and if you happen to throw a steak on that plate, it makes the hubby pretty dang happy too!!
