Pumpkin Carving Contest

There was once a day when my family silently competed with each other when it came to anything artistic. We would joke around about whose sugar cookie was decorated the best or who could color the best egg for Easter, and it was all in good fun. Then, Tim Rush joined the family. From the time Tim decorated his first Christmas sugar cookie with the family, we have all felt the need to out do him. It's almost like my whole family against Tim because he is so artistic, except Tim always wins. So this Halloween, Sean and Tim had a pumpkin carving contest, we have yet to decide the winner. It started out as let's carve pumpkins with Riley and ended with my husband going to Michaels to pick up some ceramic tools to get just the look he wanted on his pumpkin. Riley barely joined in on the fun, she was more worried about where her other Elmo slipper was.

The set up

Trying to get Riley to touch the pumpkin guts, she wanted nothing to do with the guts.

Where is Melmo? That's how Riley says Elmo.

The competition begins

Riley decided she wanted in on the action and helped Mommy carve her pumpkin

Riley loves her pumpkin

Riley's finished happy pumpkin

Tim's finished skull pumpkin

Sean's finished Frankie, having a beverage

Riley's, Tim's, and Sean's all finished!!
And last but not least, Madison, the lazy thing, slept the night away on Pop Pop.

More Mad

Here are some pics of Madi. They are not the best but they will do for now. I have this crazy mother in law who demands pictures and I don't want to disappoint ;), you know I don't think you're crazy Joy!!! The first two are from the day we got home from the hospital, her going home outfit was a little Halloween PJ and she had a pumpkin hat to go with it but it was not cold enough for her to wear. The hospital staff went crazy over her PJs, it was too cute. The next two pics are from today at the office, the girls and I went down to bring Grandma lunch. I'll get some better pics up soon.

My Mom's Halloween Bunco

Last week was my mom's Halloween bunco and I made some cookies and a cake for it. Her bunco friends always go crazy for my cookies so I felt the need to make them for her, even though I gave birth 4 days later. So here are some pictures of the sweets. Her theme was the vanquish of the great pumpkin so all of her gifts were pumpkins and the cookies and cake were also pumpkins. The cake was a chocolate espresso with a chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream...diagnosis, delicious!!! My brother took these pictures, he is such a good photographer, I think he should start a business.

Shhhhh!!!

It's 11:45 am. Both of my daughters are sleeping. I have showered and eaten breakfast all before noon. Yeah I just had my oatmeal at 11:30 but that still counts as before noon. I have to say, I have impressed myself. Thank you all for your great comments!! Hopefully tonight I can post some more pictures of a cleaner baby!! We are so blessed to have two healthy daughters!!

Madison is Here!!

Our little girl made an early appearance this past Sunday, October 19th. We welcomed Madison Reagan Rush into the world at 10:39 in the morning. It was the most perfect delivery. My water broke early Sunday morning at about 2:30 and Tim and I headed straight to the hospital after my mom came over to watch Riley. I had only about two hours of hard contractions and then I received my epidural at around 6:00 am. The epidural only wanted to work on my right side but eventually I was pain free for a while. I started to feel some contractions on my left side again for an hour and a half up till delivery but it was not too bad. Then it was time to push and in one contraction, Madison was here!! Three pushes and then we heard crying, it was absolutely perfect. She is 7 lbs 8 oz and 20 inches long, with TONS of hair!!!!

Here are a few pics of us in the hospital. When I get more time, I'll post some better pictures.

Baby Shower

This past weekend, I made a cake and cookies for another one of my mom's friends Donna Pidgeon. It was for her daughter Sheryl's first baby shower for baby Leo. Donna had a vintage theme going for the shower and everything was picture perfect. She wanted the cake to also have a vintage feel and her only request was that I put the radio flyer wagon on top as the cake topper. I had so much fun making this cake and it turned out to be one of my favorites. The top tier actually has vintage buttons on it. The cake itself consisted of two tiers, each tier a four layer yellow cake with chocolate ganache filling. I wish I could have stayed at the shower longer because I'd been dying to eat a piece of the cake.

The cake

Donna set up an old train complete with the tracks on the cake table, I think it turned out so cute.

Here are just a couple of the cookies that I made

Happy Birthday Tim!!

It was Tim's birthday on Saturday and I wanted to post a little belated birthday to him. Poor guy was sick on his birthday but started feeling better in time to go to dinner. My mom watched Riley and Tim and I took off to go have a nice quiet dinner just the two of us. It was really nice to go to dinner without our dear, sweet little girl. So I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to Tim, I love you very, very much. Riley says Happy Birthday too Daddy. Next year I promise we will plan something fun for your birthday and I will make you a better cake than a confetti cake with strawberry icing. Even though, that is what you requested, and Sean came over to eat half. Love you, happy birthday!!

Birthday Cake

On Sunday, I delivered a cake for one of my mom's friends. It was her mother's 75th birthday and she requested lavender and yellow because those are her mom's favorite colors. This cake seems to be my best seller and that's okay with me because I always like the way they look when I'm done. Pretty cakes are my favorite to make. I thought this cake turned out pretty good and my mom's friend was very happy with it. As a footnote Happy Birthday to my Grandma who turned 75 as well. I would have made her a cake too, but she prefers cherry pie!!!

Madison Reagan Rush's Baby Shower

Because my mom is always looking to host a party, we decided it would be a good idea to have a nice, small baby shower for Ms. Madison. I did not get to do a nursery for Riley and I wanted a lot of big pieces for Madison and my mom thought it would be great to have a baby shower so I could get most of the stuff I wanted as gifts. I know so smart right? Everyone got us such great gifts and I'm so excited to do Madison's room. My brother got some great pictures of our little shower, everything looked so pretty. Thank you everyone for all of the awesome gifts!!

Joy, I wanted to thank you so much for the beautiful crib you and Dave got for us. We love it!! I'm so sorry you didn't get to make it to the shower, but more importantly I'm glad you are okay. We missed you a bunch but are really looking forward to Thanksgiving. It will be a great visit and we'll have so much to celebrate. Thank you again, as soon as we get the crib set up, I'll have pictures posted. Come to think of it, you guys might be helping us set everything up!! Love you and miss you. Feel better, doctor's orders!!

Here are some pictures of the table my mom set. I have never seen anyone set a table like my mom. She is absolutely the best, she knows how to set the mood and make everyone feel like they are sitting at the most glamorous table ever. She is so talented and has such a great eye for stuff like this. For the shower, it was a simple table but so gorgeous. I hope the pictures do it justice. Mom, I really can't say enough about you, you really made me feel special, I think I almost cried, but you'd never know it!!! One word, Beautiful!!

Here is a picture of the cake table. We ordered a cake from the most delicious bakery in the world. It's a bakery in Redlands. This cake rocked the house, I've never tasted anything more delicious. Mmmm, and we ate it all!

Here are a few pictures of the diaper cake that my Aunt and cousin made. I've seen these online, but never anything quite like this, they did such a classy job. I love this diaper cake, I have yet to take it apart. They are so clever!!

Here is the bedding I got for Madison, the colors are beautiful. I love this set so much that I got every piece possible. Her room will look so cute!!

Kissing Cousins, too cute for words!!

The balloons seemed to be a BIG hit!!

What's Up Cuz?

This past weekend was so much fun!! Stacy and Bella flew in from OK for our small baby shower for Madison Reagan Rush. It was so fun to see them both and Stacy looks absolutely amazing. She is soooo skinny and is definitely motivation for me once I have the baby.

Bella and Riley got along pretty well for babies. Bella is such an easy going, happy baby who just loves everyone. She is so good natured and sweet. She gives kisses to anyone who asks, I just love her so much. I wish I could see her more. Riley, is very used to being the center of attention because she is the only Grand baby that lives in California. So she didn't really know how to handle Bella. She liked Bella but did not like the attention that she received from everyone, especially Grandma. I think Bella got nicknamed Uh Oh, by Riley. It was so funny, everything the baby did was Uh Oh or NNOOOO!! I wish we had had a video camera for when they first played together. Riley was a little afraid of Bella, she made some noises Riley was not used to and it freaked her out a bit. It was comedy. I think next time Stacy and Bella come to visit, Riley will be more prepared. She really does not get to play with kids all that much and once this sister of hers gets here, she has no choice. Plus, Bella will be walking by Christmas, probably running, so they will have tons of fun together.

Riley was not sure she was ready to share her Grandma with that "uh oh" from Oklahoma
